In Modo Plastico is a composers collective which was grounded by Robert Loeber, Dyane Donck and Sjoerd Leijten in 2008. The collective uses the musical clichés that surround us in daily life as vocabulary. From this 'plastic music' the composers create their own musical language, based on the soundworld of the media. In their first project, Het Nokia Offer, Evelien took part as a singer. In 2009 Evelien joined the collective. The second project, Sjmapocalypse Soon!, has 'threat' as its main theme. Evelien wrote three alarming songs and assembled a set of instruments consisting of bicycle horns, bicycle bells, megaphones, vocals and electronics:
M'aider! M'aider! MayDay! (4'): Mayday is an emergency code word used internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications. It derives from the French 'venez m'aider', meaning 'come help me'. A mayday call may only be made when life or craft is in imminent danger of death or destruction and is always given three times in a row. On the left you can see a live registration ot the song at Studio K, Amsterdam.
TROOST (4'): Lyrics: Thomas Morley. A soothing songsoundscape written to relax and enjoy In the midst of all this distress.
Mr. Skylight & Mr. Mob (5'): Mr. Skylight paged over the PA system is an alert for the crew on board and means there is a minor emergency somewhere. Mr. Mob is a bit more serious and means man overboard. In this song bicycle horns are sampled by a Kaoss Pad which is sampled by two megaphones. The performers with the megaphones then move into space so that the listeners are surrounded. Listen to it on the left.
