| Eij (26', for mezzosoprano and computer, 2002 & 2004) |
Eij (composition: Marco Beck) is especially written for Evelien, whose voice is manipulated by a computer in realtime. In Eij the vocal sounds derive from various Dutch dialects. Eveliens voice is sampled live and played back in an extremely structural way. Intimate solo's and multilayered choirs alternate and rhythmical and lyrical movements are used to cut up the Dutch dialects and create counterpoint. In Eij various tuning systems are used, resulting in alternative intervals. Singing these unusual frequencies while holding a tuning fork in one hand and a stopwatch in the other makes performing Eij quite a challenge, for which the utmost concentration is needed. |
