Evelien van den Broek

Evelien van den Broek is a composer and performer who studied Film & Television at the University of Amsterdam and Music & Technology at the Utrecht School of Arts. She graduated as Bachelor of Music (with honours) and Master of Arts in Composition in Contexts. She composes for film, theatre and modern dance and makes soundperformances with instruments, objects and electronics. As a singer Evelien has performed new compositions both solo and in small ensembles, in most cases extending her voice with electronics. A fascination for a specific sound or an unusual instrument is often the starting point for her to make a new piece.

Evelien wrote filmmusic for the short film Wild Boar starring Thom Hoffman and Carice van Houten. She composed for .tibbaR, a short documentary that received the Dutch Golden Calf as well as several international awards. With choreographer Eva Baumann
she worked on two solo dance performances and the composition research project Chimera. Evelien has

composed for and performed in three performance
installations by Anne Karin ten Bosch. She sang in Oproer 1783 (musictheatre) and in Het Nokia Offer (ensemble, tape and video). Works for the stage include Wiegelied (music box & electronics), Tanto de Nada (voice & electronics with duo bang.grab.stutter.) and Mr. Skylight & Mr. Mob (bicyclehorns, megaphones & electronics with collective In Modo Plastico).

Her work has been presented in a.o. theatres Frascati, hetveem and the Melkweg (Amsterdam), Rotterdamse Schouwburg (Rotterdam), het Nederlands Film Festival (Utrecht), IDFA (Amsterdam), Korzo (The Hague), Kunsthuis Syb (Beetsterzwaag), Künstlerhaus Mousonturm (Frankfurt, Germany) and Radio Svizzera Italiana (Lugano, Switzerland).
